With all the new training opportunities coming this year, we've added a Workout Calendar to the website.  Note the new page addition on the left side of the screen.

Special thanks to Cycling Czars Jason Weinland & Patrick Marr and Running Czars Mike McHalffey & Daniel Anderson for organizing and putting together ride & run workouts.

Simply click on the workout tab and the workout information, ie. location, time, type of workout, will pop-up.

Be sure to check the back from time to time in case changes or updates have been made.  We will try our best to inform you as these changes occur.

Sunrise,

Jason Weinland, our Cycling Czar (first ever for Sunrise I believe), has sent me the attached cycling regimen and the following information about the new cycling program.  We already know that Jason has teamed up with Patrick Marr to put together a program for Sunrise and for both the Shreveport and Bossier sides of the river but when I opened the attachment and saw the names of the coaches they lined up, I was amazed.  I saw club members Tony Bouso and Mike McHalffey on the schedule along with several of the members from Team LaS'port, all stellar athletes and all willing to teach!  If you are new to this sport you owe it to yourself to jump on board this program.  It WILL make you stronger.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Jason directly at jsweiland@gmail.com

Great stuff Jason & Patrick, thanks!

Attached is a cycling regimen designed to promote group training rides in Shreveport  and Bossier City.  This schedule is also posted on the Sunrise web site.

Please note the following:
1.       The ride schedule is designed to promote time trialing, the essential cycling skill for triathlons.  Those training for long-course events probably already know how to tailor their schedule to accommodate the demands of longer endurance events;
2.       Currently, the course of the traditional Linwood Loop (or Tuesday and Thursday Worlds as Team LaS’port call the rides) is under construction. But while the course might change, the spirit of the ride will not. We will keep you posted as to the disposition of the course and any potential change to the venue;
3.       This is an experiment and we realize that some of these rides may not be popular or the times may interfere with other Sunrise training events, i.e. the Monday / Wednesday runs. The ongoing schedule will be a work in progress until we get it right. Suggestions are welcomed;
4.       As we stated in the announcement, the intention of the rides is to be inclusive.  All skill levels are welcomed and all will be coached;
5.       The first ride will be Sunday, March 14th .  The schedule calls for intervals, but that ride is at the coach’s direction;
6.       And now for the disclaimer: this is a competitive sport.  There will be times when the group rides away from you. You will get dropped. It happens to everyone. Vow to come back ride harder. And when you do come back, you will get stronger. That’s a promise;

We look forward to seeing everyone on the road.

 Sunrise Members:

 We will be organizing weekly afternoon training runs twice a week on Mondays & Wednesdays.  These will begin March 15 @ 6pm after the time changes.  The runs will be usually 4-6 miles and take place on the Clyde Fant trail in Shreveport or Arthur Teague trail in Bossier City.  We chose these locations because they are accessible for parking as well as safety, i.e. no vehicles.  These being out & back courses solves the problem of memorizing a mapped route or getting lost.  Plus it gives opportunity to interact & encourage each other.

The runs are for everyone, regardless of pace or experience; veteran or newbie.  The runs will be at your own pace but will be designed to help everyone to improve their running skills.

After a bit of time we will implement some run workouts to fit different needs & paces.  Typical workouts may include tempo runs, fartleks and negative split runs.  If you are not sure of what these types of runs are no need to worry we will help and explain as they are added in.

The main goals of these weekly runs are to provide a quality work out and give club members to train & interact with fellow Sunrisers.

More information will come as we progress in the year.

See you soon,

Daniel Anderson  pokesalad1@yahoo.com

Mike McHalffey  mikemc250@yahoo.com

It is Feb 19th and 20th.  There is a lecture on the 19th at 4:30pm at ULM that Troy will put on and then a dinner following with Coach Dan Reeves (Denver Broncos) speaking.Troy

Jacobson is the inventor of the Spinervals DVD's.  He is a tri coach from Arizona and the clinic he will put on here at ULM is A. you riding your bike on a trainer as a group and him checking out your pedaling stroke, position and then putting you through a bike workout.  After an hour of biking, we will change into our swim gear (if you are not in a tri suit) and walk 100 yards to the pool.  We have a 50 meter pool and he will do stroke instruction/technique and techniques for swimming in open water.

Adults are $100 for the 2 days and $50 for students with a ID from their school.

You can check out this link to see who he is:
Troy Jacobson link click HERE

I would love for you all to come take part.  I was just trying to do something fun for the state triathletes.

On the 20th, we will start at 8:00 am in the activity center on ULM campus.  We will open at 7:00am for you to set your bikes up and get warmed up if you like.  We have a load of changing facilities in the activity center or you can wait until you get to the pool.  The bike portion is from 8-9.  The swim will be from 9:30-10:30.  The lunch will be at 11:00 at the Coliseum with Chris Mortenson from ESPN talking for 15-20 minutes while we serve you lunch.  We will have police to stay with your bikes until you return to retrieve them after the lunch (or you can remove them before the lunch if you like).

Attached is a registration form.  You can fill it out, fax it to me and pay the day you arrive if you  like (although a check in the mail would be great....we are just trying to get a handle on the number of people to feed and have diddy bags for).  Adults are $100 and students are $50 for the 2 days.

Here is the link to the entire Summit that is going on at the same time.  You can click on the speakers name and get a pdf file of their bio.

Cheers!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, January 31st at 4PM because that is when Anna Means will present her third seminar on Triathlon Specific Injury Prevention Techniques.

The focus of this clinic will be on patella-femoral dysfunction of the knee…can also be called “runner’s knee”.

Sharon Dunn, PT, PhD, OCS and Anna’s partner at The Edge will be leading the clinic and Anna will be assisting.

So far these clinics have been well organization, very professional and presented in a language (you wouldn’t think so with words like patella-femoral dysfunction) that really puts you in a better position to be smart about things that hurt when we workout.

You’ll come out smarter and better prepared to avoid training downtime.  Maybe we should call it “The Downtime Prevention Series”.

The seminar will be held at:

The Edge Physical Therapy
2950 Fairfield Ave.
Shreveport, LA 71104

There is no cost for this presentation it is included in your membership so here’s a good reason to register before month end!

As always, any questions......

Doug
